Site Specific I Project Jan-Path I Delhi, India
2013
Jute and Nails on the Wall
A site-conditioned intervention within a residential home in Delhi, it was one of two such engagements under the larger umbrella of a group exhibition August Exhibition. Exposed bricks and accompanying horizontal grooves became the starting point here, staging an existing implied grid on the wall, something that already intrigues me greatly. Rather than treating the surface as a neutral background, I began to read its inherent structure as the visual and conceptual framework for the work. Using jute and nails, I responded to this very innate character of this architectural space, by placing jute fibre strands against the horizontal seams created by exposed bricks. The site-specific work was made to activate the space based on the spatial narrative and structural conditions of the site.
