Light Projection

Natural light continuously enriches and transforms the spaces we inhabit, yet its presence is so familiar that it frequently goes unnoticed. The light projection works engage with light as a spatial condition, particularly within architectural spaces deprived of a natural source of light. By introducing an artificial presence of light into an otherwise enclosed or windowless space, the works subtly makes the viewer question the natural laws of physics and its interaction with architectural space. The resulting disruption makes the viewer conscious not only of the space but of the assumptions through which the space is being perceived. Thereby creating a momentary uncertainty about what is real, projected, present, or absent.

At the centre of these interventions is an attempt to draw attention to the quiet transformations that light continuously produces within built environments we encounter in our everyday lives. By removing light from its expected architectural context and reconstructing it artificially, these works attempt to make this otherwise taken for granted experience perceptually available again.

The momentary interruption of this familiarity attempts to make visible the quiet, continual transformations through which light shapes our architectural environments and, in turn, our experience of them. The mundane becomes perceptually charged, inviting a slower form of looking and channelising an awareness of something that is ordinarily present, freely available, and deeply enriching.
