Adhesive Tape on Existing Bench

This self-initiated intervention was made in 2013 at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA, New Delhi), a public institutional space enclosed within its expansive green grounds, where people come and rest. A while back, I used to teach young kids various aspects of drawing, wherein the act of outlining began to occupy my attention in particular. An elementary exercise through which young minds learn to perceive and understand forms, often pictorially exemplified by their books filled with traced outlines and contours. Emerging through a reverse process of the same, the site-specific work here is the line drawing accentuating the outlines of fixed public benches installed in the garden. The outline, thereby instantly transforms the physical structure into a sketch in the real space.
